Katie Piper is a former model and television presenter from Andover, Hampshire in England, UK. Piper had hoped to have a full-time career in the media, but in March 2008 she was the victim of an acid attack, in which a stranger threw sulphuric acid on her face. The attack, which blinded Piper in one eye, was arranged by Piper’s ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, and carried out by an accomplice, Stefan Sylvestre.
Katie Piper asked to die rather than have to go through painful operations and treatment to repair her. But she changed her mind, and the 26-year-old has now told of her courageous battle to recover from the horrendous ordeal and the pioneering surgery that has got her life back on track.
Katie said, “Every scar tells a story and when something like this happens which is not an accident but a deliberate action, I’m not prepared to let it ruin my future. Now, though, I realize my life before was so superficial. I used to refuse to go out if I had a spot on my face. Now I wish a spot was all I had to worry about.”
"I did have these terrible attacks. Yeah I do look totally different physically, but I want to be the woman who got through that and is now living. Not the woman that "Oh, she was attacked. It’s terrible. Don’t mention this. She can’t do that any more. She doesn’t go there. But you know, shh." You know, like, I just want to be rid of that, I just want to be Katie. I’d like to be able to have a husband and family one day. I can’t live a life of regret.”
'She felt everything too deeply, it was like the world was too much for her.'
